Early intervention and eradication is key to control or eliminating these species which have been estimated to cost the Irish State €261 million per annum. Ireland has international obligations to deal with invasive species under the Habitats Directive, Convention on Biological Diversity, International Plant Protection Convention and Bern Convention in addition to National legislation obligations including S.I. 477/2011 Birds and Natural Habitats Regulations.
